Promises, Promises

With protests on college and university campuses around the nation due to covert and overt acts of racism administrators are making promises to increase diversity on campus. But are these promises, which can actually be kept, or are they being made to pacify students and prevent further student led protests? Many are applauding the decision to consciously increase the hiring of minority faculty and staff on college and university campuses. But at the same time people are appalled by recent efforts to specifically recruit faculty members of a specific race or group of races/cultures (seepost https://www.higheredjobs.com/institution/details.cfm?JobCode=176152946&Title=Assistant+Professor+of+Physics+%28Job+ID%3A+32279%29&aID=7137). So, have administrators purposefully made promises they cannot keep or did they commit to increase racial/ethnic/cultural diversity but failed to create a viable means for making this plan a reality? How do we purposefully increase diversity and recruit minority candidates without limiting faculty search to members a specific racial/ethnic/cultural group?
